If You Want To Learn Something, Teach It To Someone Else
If you want to learn something, teach it to someone else. Making the transition from wrestling to coaching has been a new challenge, but it has been a lot of fun. I have started to look more at what others are doing and looking for solutions to help them meet their needs. I have also come to realize that by teaching others I have become more of a student. I wish that I would have spent more time coaching while I was competing. I think that everyone who is competing now should be coaching to some degree. When you are teaching others technique, yours improves quickly.
When you are teaching, there is an added pressure to be competent. I like that pressure. It gives me something to work toward. It lets me compete again. So I look at the time that I have spent learning as a student and the time that I have spent learning as a coach. The conclusion that I have come up with is that I learn much faster as a coach. My new resolution for learning now is to prepare in a way that I will be able to proficiently teach whatever I am learning to someone else. This process cuts your learning curve tremendously, and it can also greatly increase your skills. There is so much that I want to learn. I better get to teaching.
